Opening: New Ph.D. Research Assistant

One fully-funded Ph.D. Research Assistant is available immediately at the Intelligent Control and Robotics (IcRobots) lab at the University of Rhode Island, this position will be involved in research on theory development of multi-agent distributed control and its applications to multi-robot coordination. Requirements:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Automatic Control, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related areas.

  • Knowledge in MATLAB, embedded system design, C++, Linux, ROS, and/or strong mathematical/control is preferred.

  • Minimum TOEFL requirement is 80 by graduate school. GRE can be waived for excellent students.

Two fully-funded Ph.D. Research Assistants are available immediately at the Intelligent Control and Robotics (IcRobots) lab at the University of Rhode Island, these positions will be involved in research on design, modeling and control of energy-efficient autonomous underwater vehicles. *Required qualifications:

  • Possess a bachelor degree in engineering, computer science or relevant fields. Candidates who expect to receive the degree before the expected starting date (September 2022 or January 2023) is also qualified.

  • Familiar with Linux operating system and programming languages such as Python, C++,

  • Familiar with engineering software, e.g., Solidworks, MATLAB and ROS.

    *Preferred qualifications:

  • Possess a master degree in engineering, computer science or relevant fields. Candidate who expected to receive his master degree before the expected starting date (September 2022 or January 2023) is also qualified.

  • Strong background in mathematics and/or control.

  • Demonstrate previous experience in robotics with physical systems in, preferably, outdoor environment.

  • Demonstrate previous experience software developing using ROS middleware and OpenCV.

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving capability, excellent communication skills, and scientific writing/reporting skills

  • Relevant experience in marine robotics will be considered as an asset.
